The ninth annual report of the South African Renal Registry summarises December 2020 data on kidney replacement therapy (KRT) for patients with failure in Africa. numbers reported here are substantially lower than those recorded previous report. This is likely result several factors, including larger deaths from COVID-19 and other causes, delayed initiation KRT due to pandemic, challenges submission registry during a period when personnel were overwhelmed clinical responsibilities related pandemic. In 2020, number who being treated chronic dialysis or transplantation stood at 8 734, prevalence 146 per million population (pmp). Africans accessing treatment private healthcare sector was 729 pmp, whereas it 44 pmp chronically under-resourced public sector, well below rate 1994.
